World Kindness Day

A number of years ago Pat and I were hiking a section of the Bruce Trail. We had left our car at the start of the trail and a bicycle at the other end, so one of us could ride our bike back to the car when we finished.

Several hours later, when we reached the end of the trail, we discovered the tires on the bike had gone almost completely flat. I rode it a short distance but eventually gave up.

I spotted a farm laneway and some people enjoying some refreshments behind the barn. I wandered in, explained our predicament and asked if someone could possibly drive me to our car. Immediately, one person jumped up and said, “Come with me.”

I put the bike in the back of his truck, hopped in and we set off towards the car some 8 km away. As we approached our car, I offered to pay him for the ride. His reply was, “The way you can pay me is by helping someone else in need some day.”

Because of this, his simple act of kindness has been multiplied many times since and the story has been passed along to many others.

Til next time,

Chris Snyder
